Don't only be good, be good for something. A passion to persist...

"Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." –Calvin Coolidge

He sure showed that with his persistence and determination with Prohibition.
He does have a point for sure. Put one foot in front of the other comes to mind.

There is some truth in President's Calvin words, especially when he says:
 "Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent”;
I think he is absolutely wrong when he says:
"Genius will not, Talent will not"
And I really do not agree with the words " ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

I rather believe that it is the combination of talent and persistence which brings success. And this combination is a personal mixture which varies from person to person.
There is no pattern. I rather think that we have to include values like intuition and ability to improvise to gain a strong personality ... besides persistence and determination.

Practice, makes perfect - the only difference between a winner, and, a loser, is, the winner got up one more time - Babe Ruth held two world records - the most home runs, and, the most strike outs.

But, I believe in this quote he implied talent, genius and other hibernating blessings are futile until persistently manifested into action with determination.
Everyone has talent, at least one. But what makes the divine blueprint within us tarnish and fade over time is the fact we don't acknowledge the possibility of transforming them into tangible forms via our potential ability to contribute to Humanity.
As for 'press on', consider this on an individual scale. How many times have talented geniuses given up to when they almost reached the pinnacle.  Only almost...

We have no idea what we give up when we "give up".

Passion and persistence will help you reach the goal. Of the two passions might be easier to come by.

Passion burns hot and quick but persistence is the hand that nurtures and revives the flame of passion when it flickers or grows dim especially when it is doused by your own limitations or those imposed by others or by the simple and inevitable passage of time!

Let’s send out our intentions and become the witnesses of the happening of the wonders of life.

Let’s feel the faith that every intention is like a stone we throw into an endless sea of stillness and every single one of this stones creates waves that are expanding through the whole infinite sea of divine consciousness.

Through the great intelligence of life itself this waves becomes the manifestation of our desires in the most direct and harmonic way that is possible and that creates good for all what is.
