When you has
decided to live your life according to a specific code and specific principles,
and understands that it is your actions which ultimately define you.
When you has
decided to live by higher standards than the average person, and being
considerate of others is a part of those standards.
Good manners say more about you than about the person you
are conversing with at the time.
You don’t have to treat people politely or be
considerate of their feelings. There is no law which states that you have to be
courteous to others.
Being courteous is simply a way of both showing respect
for those around you and holding yourself to a standard of excellence in your
own personal behaviour.
Courtesy is merely being polite to others and being
considerate of their feelings. Although there may be times when you don’t feel
like being courteous, do your best to get past the strong urge to be curt to
someone else, even if he actually deserves it.
Remember, manners say more about
you, and courtesy simply boils down to good manners. Just
because someone else is acting like a jerk, that is no excuse for you to do the
same.
“The man of principle never forgets what he
is, because of what others are.”
PS
I was taught very early on, that you may not be rich or affluent,
college educated or privileged, but you can walk among everyone with dignity
and good manners.
Many times in the past and even now I get asked why so polite?

Why do many manners?
