Having all the skills in the world will not help you if you do not know how to use them wisely. Strategy is vital to your success, in any endeavour. 
You need to have a plan, whether it is for a personal battle or for your life in general. Without a sound strategy, you are just spinning the roulette wheel, hoping that the ball somehow lands on your number.

Plan your work and work your plan. It is important to hone your skills, but it is just as important to understand your strategy and have a plan to achieve your objective. Save the noise for after your victory, and develop strategy.

Strategy/tactics is not a under minded/negative action that many would have you believe; but a positive mind/ action that is needed in many areas such as; sports, education, work-place, health practice, and today ; a much needed area.....marriage. Forget the politic area: we already have a label for that.

Successful Strategy: A system of mission oriented, mutually supporting Skill Sets (tactics) coordinated by a plan of execution to achieve an Objective. The system must be supported by mission specific logistics and training. The plan must be conceived with valid assumptions, executed with leadership and concluded with finality.
